Curt Schilling To Retire A BoSox

Curt Schilling reported today in his blog that he and the Boston Red Sox have come to terms on a 1 year deal.

Schilling has stated that he will be done after the 2008 season and true to his word only negotiated for a one year deal.

As this entry shows, pro sports money deals are just staggering. Even though Schilling admits he gave a hometown discount to the Red Sox, check out these amazing numbers:

$8 million in guaranteed base salary

$2 million in bonuses for 6 seperate weigh ins

$3 million in IP incentives based on IP totals

$1 million for receiving a Cy Young vote, any vote

Some miscellaneous things were agreed upon as addendums as well

I’ll bet those miscellaneous things are worth far more than Average Joe Sports Fan makes in a year.

Schilling ends his post with a rally cry to get BoSox 3rd baseman and recent World Series MVP Mike Lowell signed.
